The Fifth Season of Folly: Carnival & Balls in Munich 2026
In Munich, the “fifth season” officially begins on November 11. However, Carnival reaches its most atmospheric peak now, when the city immerses itself in a colorful celebration of joy with balls, parades, and long-standing traditions.
Diese Zeit verwandelt die ganze Stadt in eine Bühne für fantasievolle Kostüme, Musik, Tanz und gelebte Tradition. Von familienfreundlichen Nachmittagsbällen bis hin zu glamourösen Galaabenden bietet München unvergessliche Erlebnisse für jeden Geschmack.
Ein ganz besonderes Highlight der Faschingszeit ist der Münchner Schäfflertanz. Er wird erstmals 1702 in den Archiven der Stadt München erwähnt und zählt zu den ältesten überlieferten Traditionen der Stadt. Der Schäfflertanz wird nur alle sieben Jahre aufgeführt und findet vom 6. Januar (Dreikönigstag) bis Faschingsdienstag statt. In dieser Zeit ziehen die Tänzer durch Münchens Straßen und Plätze.

Am Faschingsdienstag, den 17. Februar 2026, erreicht der Münchner Fasching seinen Höhepunkt. Bereits ab 10 Uhr sorgt der traditionelle Tanz der Marktfrauen am Viktualienmarkt für ausgelassene Stimmung. Anschließend wird in der ganzen Stadt weitergefeiert – etwa beim bunten Faschingstreiben im Hofbräuhaus oder im Narrenzelt im Löwenbräukeller. Zahlreiche weitere Partys und Veranstaltungen machen diesen Tag zu einem stimmungsvollen Finale der närrischen fünften Jahreszeit.
