Contemporary trends: The Pinakothek der Moderne

While the weather outside is wet and cold, Munich's many museums are a great way to spend the day. Alongside the Alte Pinakothek and the Neue Pinakothek, the Pinakothek der Moderne is one of the most famous exhibition venues in the world. Part of Munich's art district, the Pinakothek der Moderne unites four independent museums under one roof. It shows its visitors interesting collections of 20th and 21st century art, graphics, architecture and design.
Modern Art Collection
Where the Neue Pinakothek exhibition ends, the Pinakothek der Moderne exhibition begins. In addition to works of art from classical modernism and contemporary art, works of photography and videography also await the astonished gaze of visitors. With more than 20,000 works, it is one of the largest collections in Europe.
State Graphic Collection
The Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München (SGSM) comprises over 350,000 prints and over 45,000 drawings from all eras since the 12th century, making it one of the largest institutions of its kind in the world and one of the most important in Germany.
Architecture Museum
Built for the predecessor of today's Technical University of Munich, the Architecture Museum shows temporary exhibitions of original photographs, drawings and models. Its collection includes around half a million drawings by hundreds of renowned architects.
